Houston, YOU have a problem!

That's right, Houston, I'm coming for you!

THIS weekend is one of my favorite conventions & with it being my third, straight year having a table here, it's safe to say that I'm SUPER SUPER SUPER excited that the time has once again come for…

If you haven't been to this show yet, first of all, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! & second of all, it's not too late for you to make it right with the world! You actually have FOUR days to choose from this year as Comicpalooza falls on Memorial Day weekend, so they thought: "Why NOT make the show four days this year?!" So that's what's happening May 23-26th & with the guests they have lined up, you have no excuse to miss it. Head to the website to check out all the info, but c'mon…Mike Mignola AND Stan Lee?!?!..fahgettaboudit!

So where will I be & what will I have at the show? Welp, my handsomely-talented broseph, Lance, & I will be patty-caking at TABLE 1019 in Artist Alley all four days. Lance will have all his awesome For The Title, Clean Hands comics, prints stuff as well as taking commissions while I'll have a lot of original art, prints, t-shirts, blah blah blah, buttons, this & that stuff for you tooooo. Here's a map that you MUST PRINT OUT so you'll easily find Lance & I & won't get lost in the massiveness of this convention center!:

Getting back to what I'll have available, there will be TWO new Monster MugShots debuting at the show, so if you've been collecting the series so far, time to add to the growing group of killers!:

Welcome the Tall Man & the Krite to the lineup, so how about giving these cute, little booger eaters a home! Don't worry if you can't make it to Comicpalooza though(HOW COULD YOU?!), you can Check my online store after the show as I'll be making them available shortly after… Again…COLLECT THEM ALL!!:

There will also be a few of my original paintings to point & laugh at & hopefully fill that empty space on your walls. I'll even have THIS new acrylic/ink piece which measures 40"x 30"(that's BIG by the way!!) AND it has a SHY BEE in it!:

I'll also be joining a TON of talented artists Saturday, right after the show closes for that day, for Comicpalooza's annual Live Art Event! It'll be held on the 3rd floor of the Convention Center in the Hall C balcony area. Come see me frantically create art right in front of your ball-filled-eyesockets & who knows…if you dig it, maybe you can bid on it & make it your very own! The silent auction will run from 7-10:30pm & proceeds will go to benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Charities, so come support a great cause!

MAY 2014: TexASS Art Tour, yo!

Whelp…it's the month of MAY, so MAY i share something with ya?! I'm gonna be a damn, busy SHY BEE this month!

That's right, I'm loading up the tour bus with Microns, Haribo Gummi Bears, brushes, ink, art & farts & hitting the road for a TexASS Art Tour/May 2014!! I hope you can join me for ALL these events, but realistically I hope to see you at at least ONE of them. Let's see where the road will take us shall we?":

FIRST STOP, May 2nd: Austin, TX - Mindzai Creative

I luckily won't have far to go to kick this "tour" off, as I'll be sitting comfortable in my home base of Austin. The fine folks at Mindzai put on an art show every first Friday of each month & they asked me to join them for May. I(along with a few other rad artists) will have some original art(along with prints & goodies)up & for sale this evening at the Mindzai Creative gallery. I'll be debuting a newer 40"x30" acrylic/ink painting that I'm excited to share with you toooo(If you follow my Instagram, I've been sharing some process shots…) So I'll have around 15 pieces up & the show will run from 8-11pm w/ music, drinks, live art/screenprinting…ALL kinds of fun that you shouldn't miss out on. If you bring a blank shirt they'll even screen print my ALF design on it for FREE!

They'll also have it for sale along with other great mercy, so come enjoy a drink, some great art & let's hang out! This'll be a fun one, guys..

SECOND STOP, May 3rd: Laredo, TX - Legacy Comics/Free Comic Book Day

Yep…back to LaRADo for my second consecutive Free Comic Book Day! Legacy Comics is THE BEST comic shop out there & I had so much fun last year doing signings/sketches with my brother & David Marquez that I was thrilled when they asked me back for this year's show. This FCBD is going to be HUGE with their new remodeled store which added a crazy amount of extra square footage & some cool guests like: my brother, Lance, Paul Maybury, studio roomie Nick Pitarra, Carlo Barberi, Tom Nguyen & David Angelo Roman. You's got's to come by for some free comics & maybe pick up some art from one of our ugly hands… It'll run 10am-7pm & all the info for the event can be found here. Yeah!

THIRD STOP, May 8th: San Antonio, TX - Alamo Drafthouse - HATCHET Trilogy!

Hatchet is one of my favorite slasher films. Victor Crowley has tapped into the horror community with his beautiful face & can easily stand toe to toe with any of the classic slashers of our time now that he's become a franchise with three movies. So why wouldn't you want to see ALL THREE OF THE HATCHET FILMS IN A ROW?!?!

The amazing folks at Alamo Drafthouse with Blood Thirsty Thursdays will be showing this bloody, movie marathon this coming Thursday & it's not going to be your average screening! This will be a fundraiser event for SCARES THAT CARE! which benefit women fighting breast cancer & sick children. They'll have signed goodies from Kane Hodder(Crowley) AND Tony Todd(Reverend Zombie), Fright Rags will be giving away some Hatchet shirts AND those that stay for ALL THREE MOVIES will go home with my Victor Crowley Monster MugShot print!(you may get one regardless though:):

FOURTH STOP, May 10-11th & 17-18th: Austin, TX - Mindzai Creative WEST Austin Studio Tour
So I'll be heading back to lovely, homely Austin AND Mindzai Creative as their studio is included in the 3rd Annual West Austin Studio Tour. WEST is a free, self-guided tour that shows off a butt load of the talent in Austin. Everyone's invited to check out working studios learning about techniques & tools while supporting the local artists doing their thing. As mentioned above, I'll have about 15 pieces up & for sale & will be hanging out at Mindzai Creative as well as checking out ALL the other amazing art/studios in West Austin. I urge you all to check it out & get inspired!

My next "Art Tour" stop will be at yet another Alamo Drafthouse cinema…this time in a little German town:

FIFTH STOP, May 22nd: New Braunfels, TX - Alamo Drafthouse - SLEEPAWAY CAMP

We're continuing the horror with the cult classic, 80's flick: Sleepaway Camp. If you haven't seen this movie then you're still unaware of THE BIGGEST TWIST ENDING in not only horror films, but ANY movie of all time! This showing will be the Sleepaway Camp BluRay pre-release party for SCREAM FACTORY & the first Blood Thirsty Thursdays at the New Braunfels location. There will be giveaways including my ANGELA Monster Mugshot print. There will be 40 signed prints, so grab a ticket to the show & take her home with you! SIXTH STOP, May 22nd: Dallas, TX - MORRISSEY's BIRTHDAY!

I've been a HUGE fan of his &, of course, The Smiths for a loooooong time now, so to get to see him perform on his birthday in Texas at a SOLD OUT intimate venue is something super duper special. I know this doesn't really fit in with my TexASS Art Tour, but I just wanted to share my excitement. Here's a terrible, little watercolor picture I did of him about six years ago to keep with the art theme….i guess:

SEVENTH STOP, May 23-26th: Houston, TX - Comicpalooza

And the final stop of my May 2014 Art Tour takes me back to Houston, TX for my third straight year at Comicpalooza. I love this convention & I'm excited to show at it with my brother, Lance, once again. I'll do another post for this show closer to the event as I'll be doing a new Monster MugShot for it & will share it when it's finally done, so please check back for more info.

So that's that. Six Texas cities in one month, spreading my gracefully grotesque art all over people's faces & high fiving the whole way. I really hope you can some out for some of these events so we can stare into each other's eyes & enjoy this life in each other's presence for a short time….that sounds like fun. Oh yeah!…go listen to The Movie Crypt's newest podcast with amigos Adam Green (of HATCHET fame….speaking of which), the sexy Joe Lynch & their guest: super high-fiving badass, Alex Pardee, who gives me a "Schibi Shoutout" this episode. With Alex being the guy who inspired me to go freelance when I met him years ago, I always draw inspiration from artists like him & this particular podcast delivers…it's a must listen for any creator out there. Something STRANGE is in the air...

TONIGHT is the opening of STRANGE BEASTS 2: A Tribute to the King!:

That's right! GUZU GALLERY is bringing the big man into their gallery space once again with an outstanding show filled with amazing artists. This time around they've allowed each artist to pair up Godzilla against a foe of their choice. Even though I would've loved to go with some of my favorite horror slashers like Victor Crowley or Leatherface, I decided to stay true to the Kaiju world & pit Godzilla against the SUPER handsome Garamon. Here's what my monster hand scribbled out for the show:

This original ink illustration sits in at 24"x18" on bristol board. If you're interested in it you can pick it up at the gallery or head to their online store where it'll be up sometime this weekend.

STAPLE! is here….AGAIN!

March 2014 begins THIS coming weekend & in addition to that terrible, four-letter festival that engulfs my hometown of Austin with funny looking kids & aging rock n' rollers, there's that FUN, little convention of DIY creators tooooooo. So STAPLE! your eyelids to your forehead once again….

…as you don't want to miss a single, dorky second of STAPLE!

There's a lot of great guests & friends in the program this year(check it out here) & it's gonna be a definite, talent-filled-fun-time. My twin brother, Lance, & I will be sitting(& sometimes dancing & sleeping) at TABLE 68 (I know…ONE number off, damnit), so you best set aside some time this weekend to come point & laugh at us. Lance will have a lot of new stuff including the newest volume of his HILARIOUS web comic, FOR THE TITLE, & copies of his newest, one-shot comic he wrote & Claire Connelly illustrated, CLEAN HANDS, which rules(clean hands not required to purchase or handle this comic). I'll also have a few goodies spread out on the table & we'll BOTH be doing a few commissions throughout the weekend. Come get a delicious, Schibi sandwich!

Other than that I've been busy with random commissions & working on a new screen print for another show at Guzu Gallery next month..more info on that later.

It's time to AnnhilEIGHT!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRIENDS!!

…not only am I super excited that I somehow survived another year, but when January comes along I'm super DUPER excited because that means my favorite art show EVER is about to happen. No…not Bob Ross's Happy New Year's Special, but the anniversary show of ARTSLAM! & THIS year they're celebrating year EIGHT….AnnihilEIGHT!!!!!

So the past two years have been nothing short of the greatest time ever(which you can read about here & here) & this year will definitely be no different. ARTSLAM! is bringing in FIVE ridiculously talented artists to paint the walls of The White Rabbit. The impressive list looks like this: Skinner, Woebots, Ernest Doty, Ekundayo & TallBoy. This boy band will guarantee a good time, so put your New Kids on the Block gear on & come strut your right stuff Saturday, Jan. 25th at the White Rabbit in San Antonio, TX.  Here's all the info you need…

I'll be doing some live painting & have other goodies like prints & original art available as well. I'll also be debuting a new illustration print for your eyeballs….The Creature:

Austin Comic Con 2013

HOLY CRAP has 2013 just flown by! It seems like yesterday we were popping off black cats to ring in the new year & all of sudden we're about to carve our tofurkeys & high five Santa… That's super okay with me since the Holidays are my favorite, feel-good times of the year & with them comes that one convention in my home base of Austin. That's right, amigos…it followed us through the dark streets & will creep up on us THIS weekend:

Austin Comic Con!

Let's not get too freaked out over it though. This year the organizers are bringing in some amazing artists/actors to make us "SQUEEEEE!!!" like little school girls. I'm already practicing my "I SWEAR I'm not in love with you!" face when I plan on stalking(I mean SEEING) BRUCE CAMPBELL!! But you can practice that face on Stan Lee, William Shatner, Norman Reedus, or the Karate Kid himself (No…not Will Smith's strange, little seed, but THE Karate Kid) Ralph Macchio! Who didn't"Crane Kick" everything in sight when that movie came out?! But the list is pretty ridiculously fun of who's going to be there, so check out the lineup & come hang out!

I'll be in Artist Alley all weekend sharing a table with my handsome, funny, twin brother, Lance who's one of the masterminds behind the web comic, FOR THE TITLE, & yes, that book that I'm STILL trying to finish, BULLMOOSE. We'll be sitting, sleeping & sometimes dancing at TABLE D-8, so you best make it a plan to swing by & see the nonsense we're offering…

I'll have SIX new prints available of pieces from my FIRST, solo art show which just closed Nov. 18th. SOMETHING IN THE WATER was a blast to put together & I hope all of you guys were able to check it out! With the exhibit ending, I'll be putting up prints & a lot of the originals that didn't sell in my online store for a BLACK FRIDAY SALE. Be sure to check it out next weekend! But THIS weekend at the show I'll have some black & white, signed prints like these happy, little boogers:

...& they can not wait to be hung on your walls & keep you company for the rest of your lives! Again, come by TABLE D-8 in Artist Alley to see my other, new prints available! In addition to these, I'll have a plethora of older pieces, sketchbooks & other goodies as well as a few copies of GOD HATES ASTRONAUTS which I'm sure I've told you about a while back. These 175-page, hardcover beasts of hilarity are a must own for anyone who likes to laugh! I illustrated a 2-page origin story in it that the book's creator, Ryan Browne, wrote & I couldn't be more proud of being a part of this. The book also got picked up & released by IMAGE COMICS, so guess who's an IMAGE published artist now?!…yeah ME! I do have a few of these beautifully printed books in my store too for those that can't make it out to the show…

Something Spooky

To get us all in the Halloween mood, Vince & the bad asses at Guzu Gallery have teamed up with local, horror creators & all around nice dudes, Steve Niles & Bernie Wrightson(one of my favorite illustrators of ALL TIME!), to curate a spooktacular art exhibit featuring some of my favorite artists! I was completely honored to be invited to showcase & created two new pieces for the event with my creepy style splattered all over them. 
So the opening is TONIGHT at Guzu Gallery on Lamar/51st (RIGHT next door to Austin Books & Comics) with free drinks, music, costume contests & more. It'll run 7-10pm, but if you can't make it, don't freak out completely, the show will be up & running til Nov. 25th.

Something in the Water Opening

It's OCTOBER!!! The BEST MONTH ever invented in the history of months EVER! It's power-packed with awesome anticipation: HALLOWEEN(of course), World Animal Day, the birth of ME(& my handsome twin), Freethought Day, Timothy Leary AND Susan Sarandon's birthday!, NONstop horror movies, Dashain in Nepal, wonderfully-delicious Oktoberfest beers &..what else...OH YEAH!...THIS!!:

The day has finally arrived of my FIRST, solo art show! Even though I'm still sweating profusely & stressing like a Breaking Bad viewer, I couldn't be more excited & unready!
SOMETHING IN THE WATER is a whacky-themed exhibit perfect for my style of art & especially what I LOVE to create...monsters & oddities(I'll try not to scare too many winter Texans off...unless you want me to). The show will feature new works(along with some oldies) & is a perfect exhibit to get everyone pumped up for Halloween.

There he discovered an object which seemed to answer the question of why these bizarre things were happening but took him even deeper into unexplained territory. These are his findings...."

Opening night will be THIS Friday, Oct. 4th at Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum at 6pm in my happy, little hometown of Harlingen, TX. I have some fun stuff planned like FREE prizes & goodies, making you drink water from Manus Springs which will turn you into one of my freaky illustrations as well as giving you ALL the opportunity to create some art yourself to hang in the show...FUN! Something in the Water

Just wanted to drop a quick note to let you know that my first, SOLO art show will be opening on Friday, October 4th, down in my hometown of Harlingen, TX at the Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum. I know it's a strange destination for a lot of you, but I have a lot of fun things planned that night & would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have you ALL there & build the excitement for the BEST Holiday ever, Halloween!

The exhibit will run until Nov. 18th. A lot more info is coming soon, but try to save the date...

These questions traveled to further, outside locations & soon fell on a particular set of ears eager to answer them: Dr. Herbert Putare. Upon visiting & investigating Hallow End while interviewing & testing the people living there, Dr. Putare's search eventually led him to Manus Springs, the only water supply for the tiny town. There he discovered an object which seemed to answer the question of why these bizarre things were happening but took him even deeper into unexplained territory. These are his findings....

Where be monsters? Here There Be Monsters!!

Hey guys! Long time no update, but I've been busy with stuff including locking myself in my studio & preparing new pieces for my FIRST SOLO ART SHOW("Something in the Water") opening October 4th in Harlingen, TX. More info on that later, but wanted to give you a heads up that I'll be setting up at Here There Be Monsters Con here in Austin TOMORROW from 11:30-7:30pm.

I've also been SO LUCKY to be included in a new toy company down in San Antonio called RETROBAND. Aaron is the badass who runs this company & has pumped out some AMAZING, limited edition figures all set in the horror genre:

His last release was "Jordy" from CREEPSHOW which he gave away five of my CREEPSHOW prints to the first buyers...

...they sold out super, duper fast & have caught the attention of some of the biggest horror blogs out there.

His NEXT release (scheduled for this coming Saturday, August 31st) is another character from the iconic 1982 film that will make you lose your head! He contacted me to design the packaging for for the figure & after I did SITTING BACKFLIPS from excitement, I scribbled out some nonsense which will house Aaron's horrific toy!:
