BILLY CHAPMAN HAS BEEN CAUGHT!

Happy Holidays, everyone!
It's that jolly time of year to get wrapped up in the soothing Xmas melodies from Johnny Mathis & the great, Bing Crosby, while sipping a warm concoction by the fire with your favorite Holiday movie on in the background. I know we all enjoy the classics like Christmas Vacation & A Christmas Story, as well as my annual weeping like a fresh baby while watching A Family Stone, but the Christmas time HORROR classics are always present & sliding down the chimney onto that flat screen in my living room. Classics such as A Black Christmas (1974), Christmas Evil & even last year's, instant classic, Krampus! The fellow, true, horror fans are already shaking their fists in the air since I didn't list one of THE GREATEST Christmas, horror films on that list, but shake not, my demented elves, as lovable, Billy Chapman is up front in this post & ready to come visit YOUR house!
That's right, SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT made it's way onto the big screen just over 32 years ago & it's cult following has made it what it is today! That & the unbelievably OUTSTANDING performance from Billy Chapman's grandfather in the film! So this holiday season I felt it was only right & natural to release (or incarcerate) my newest Monster MugShot: BILLY CHAPMAN!!!

He's available NOW in my online store in both "Trading Card" size & the 8x10 print alongside the other 14 characters in my ongoing series. Another character (which I released last year around this time) is also perfect for this December weather: KRAMPUS.

codyschibi.bigcartel.com
& please don't forget my "Holiday Horrors Meet" print that has been making it's virtual tour of the interwebs recently thanks to all your sharing including THIS amazing article at BloodingDisgusting.com which connects Mike Dougherty's two films, TRICK 'R TREAT with KRAMPUS.
So again, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone & please take a moment to visit my store & see if there's any goodies that you &/or a loved one deserve! Also, give me a follow on Instagram to check out new art & specials/giveaways now & then...
Enjoy these last few days of a trying year & let's ring in 2017 with smiles & high fives!!!

GWAR!!

So I'm a little late sharing this info on my blog, but at least i'm not TOO late!
There's a special band that I've been allowing into my earholes for many, many years now & they're putting together something exciting. What's even MORE exciting is that they have included ME in their newest adventure! The name of this band is GWAR & their newest adventure is COMIC BOOKS! Even though they have published some comics waaaay back in the day, this newest project is much more organized & super rad.
They currently have a Kickstarter going for their comic, which at this time has been funded, but there's a few more hours to pledge & get some amazing goodies for yourself or that loved one! Some of the goodies include a variant cover which they asked me to do for their first issue pictured here:

AND I've also offered up TEN custom, 5x7, watercolor/ink commissions (which comes with the first issue as well!) & as I type this there are ONLY THREE LEFT!

So please head over to GWARkickstarter.com NOW to check out what they have to offer & be a part of this special book filled with blood & other bodily fluids!!
If you don't have the funds to pledge anything at this moment, spreading the word is a MASSIVE way to show your support & is truly, truly appreciated by all of us involved!
Thanks for taking the time to read through this & THANK YOU for your continued support!

WE ALL WEAR MASKS

Alright, my masked amigos...THIS FRIDAY is the art opening of my new, solo exhibit, WE ALL WEAR MASKS. I wanted something to correspond with this time of year & THE BEST holiday ever, HALLOWEEN, so I wrote a fun story to base all my new works on:

'When 11-year-old Edward can't find that perfect, once-of-a-kind, Halloween costume, he is spontaneously gifted a mask from his strange, reclusive neighbor, "Old Man" Baker. When Edward puts the mask on & peers through the eyeholes, his sight is altered in a very odd manner. Instead of seeing the everyday "normal" smiles & friendly gestures of random people, he sees their true forms dripping with anxiety, awkwardness, depression, confusion, anger, sadness, fear, etc... Edward wonders why the majority of people cover their true selves, emotions & forms with fake appearances. After the mask begins to reveal people's true character, he understands the desire for some to disguise them. But others he finds more beautiful without the masks which they hide behind...'
In this exhibit, we see what Edward sees as he strips away the masks we all wear every day which hide how we truly look & feel...

The show opens Friday, October 14th from 7-10pm. There will be free beverages, music & other goodies for those who attend. I'll also have a station set up where the guests can create their own, original art which they can put up to be a part of the show & story.
I'd REALLY love to see you all there & since it's a FREE event, please bring whomever your heart desires! Here is the Facebook events page with all the info as well, so again, please share & invite your buddies: WE ALL WEAR MASKS Art Opening Reception
Looking forward to hugging you all....

X Marks the spot...

Most of you should be aware of a little event called "X GAMES". No, it's not when members of the X-MEN get together for friendly forms of competition, but rather the greatest skateboarders, bike riders & hi fivers get together for a few days to show off their highest jump, craziest tricks &/or loudest hi five! THAT X Games is once again making it's way to Austin THIS WEEKEND!! Not only will it be wowing you with it's high flying antics, but there's a few special events happening alongside X Games that I'm super pumped to be a part of! The first is just like a "Secret" show I was a part of only a few weeks ago in Houston... Yep, SECRET WALLS x X GAMES is coming at ya!!
I'll be competing again in a timed, 90-minute, live art battle using only black & white paint....THAT'S XTREME! I've been paired up with local friends & artists Jason Eatherly, Roshi K & Wade Thompson to form the 4-person group of "Team Texas" to represent the hometown of Austin against "Team World". "World" consists of heavy hitting art MONSTERS Greg Mike, Brian Butler, Paul Jackson & Matt Gondek. Definitely seek out their art if you're unfamiliar with it as it's all magical stuff! We're due for an epic battle of XTREME scale as each team tackles a massive 26' x 8' blank wall in only 90 minutes! The battle will be held during X Games at the Circuit Of Americas THIS Friday, June 3rd from 6-8pm. It'll be hosted by Nick Major with live DJ grooves from Klever. I truly hope you can make it out to this spectacle as the audience determines the winner with their screams & yells, so come & "root, root, root for the hooooooome teeeeeeeeam!"
If you happen to have a weekend pass for X Games or plan on being on the closing day of Sunday, I'll also be there doing some LIVE painting for one of the giant sponsors there, LifeProof.  I'll be painting the front & back of large, 3'x 6' "Phone cover" which  I hope you come see me do! You can even point & laugh if you want!
So yeah, I'll be at X Games slinging paint those two days & I really hope to see your xtreme faces there which would make me xtremely happy. I wanted to give another reminder that I'll be at Comicaplooza in Houston June 17-19th, but I'll remind you once more the closer it gets. Reminding is FUN!
Thanks again, friends...see you this weekend!

PAINT WAS SPILT!

Wow.
I'm still reeling from the buzz that was Secret Walls this past Friday. My introduction with this artistic beast has been overwhelming & I've officially caught the bug that makes me want to participate in these events over & over again. Let's see what the future brings...
Recollecting & going back a few days, however, Secret Walls x Houston hosted their very first live art battle in the older, now empty Post Office in downtown Houston. This was a perfect venue for this show as it provided a large space filled with never ending corridors leading to dark, eerie corners reminiscent of a horror film which was especially perfect for the date (Friday the 13th). After I arrived & met the amazing artists I would be either teaming up with or going against, the building quickly began to fill up with ticket holders & supporters. The enthusiasm & excitement was contagious & infected everyone who stepped through the entrance.
The ten artists drew straws & I ended up on the "Short Straws" team alongside Nicky Davis, Pilot FX Crew, Colers Oner & Alex Arzu:
The "Long Straws" had Mez Data, Ruiz, Briks, Wiley & Gelson Lemus:
The teams were picked, each of our 20'x8' blank walls were staring us in the face & we were ready to begin the 90 minute, black & white, art battle.
To say those 90 minutes went quickly is an understatement. It was a whirlwind of spilt paint & cracked beers. We all started on our sections at the beginning of the battle & within 30-40 minutes, our team was moving all over the wall adding to each other's pieces & becoming a unspoken, collaborative monster naturally filling in areas with reckless abandon.
After the timer went off, we stepped back & simply smiled at our creation. Both teams created an awesome, spontaneous wall with all of our personal touches scattered all over it.
The time to relax & come down from this quick, intense, art session wouldn't come just yet, as organizer, Noah Quiles, jumped on stage, grabbed the mic from DJ Anthony Craig Long & started the voting process. There were two guest judges who each picked one of the walls, leaving the tie breaker up to the crowd. The eruption for the murals was the best part of the show, but realizing that it was much louder for OUR wall was the best feeling ever. All artists high fived & hugged it out as the battle came to a close. We spent the rest of the night reminiscing & talking art & wanting to do it all over again.  It really was something special. I've always heard about Secret Walls & even attended a few of the art battles, but to actually participate in it was an amazing feeling. Creating art LIVE in front of people & feeding off their energy & the inspiring energy of all the other artists invloved is my favorite thing ever. That's why I loved San Antonio's old, live art event, ARTSLAM!, so much. As i mentioned, after having this experience, I now want to do this as much as I can! Which bring me to more exciting news!....
I'LL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE SECRET WALLS ART BATTLE AT AUSTIN'S X GAMES!!!
Yessir, I'll be hitting even a BIGGER stage & this time doing a 4 on 4 art battle against some MAJOR paint slingers in the art world. I'll share more info on this later, but us Austin artists who are coming together to take on these four contenders hope to make our city proud!
Finally, I want to thanks EVERYONE who made this Secret Walls x Houston event possible: BRIKS for the invite, Noah & Elia Quiles for the organization & amazing care they took of us, ALL of the AMAZING artists I mentioned above, the volunteers & especially all of YOU who showed their support & made this event a massive success! ALL PHOTOS on this post were taken by David Miyauchi & Joey Jojo. See a LOT more photos from this night on Facebook HERE & HERE.
I'll be seeing you again VERY soon, Houston as I'll be there with my brother in a month for Comicpalooza! I'll also have more info on that later regarding our Table # & the goodies we'll have on hand!
Thanks again for all of your continued supper & love.

Sssshhhhh...it's SECRET WALLS

A week from today (which happens to fall on a Holiday: FRIDAY THE 13th!!) is something I'm super excited to be a part of. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to tell you due to it's name, but I'M GOING TO ANYWAY!: SECRET WALLS IS COMING TO HOUSTON!!
Yep, if you don't know what Secret Walls is, it's the World's premiere LIVE, black & white only, illustration battle! It first started in 2006 in a small pub in East London & has since expanded internationally. It basically sticks a number of artists against each other in a friendly, TIMED art battle where only black markers &/or paint is allowed. They're given 90 minutes to create on a giant blank area with no planning, sketching or reference allowed...just an all-out, free-for-all, art jam, yo! In the instance for this Friday, the awesome people from Up Art Studio have selected 10 local, amazing artists to go at it in  a 5 vs. 5 Battle Royale! Here's the lineup of artists that will be there:
Admission is FREE if you RSVP via Eventbrite, so do that NOW! Retrospect Coffee, the place where this is all going down, is an intimate space, so room for viewing everything will be limited. If you want to guarantee a spot to watch the whole battle unfold as well as get FREE DRINK TICKETS, I advise you to grab some of the VIP tickets also available at the Eventbrite page. Either way, if you're in or around Houston, you should be there! You can follow Secret Walls x Houston for more info & updates on Instagram, Twitter &/or Facebook, so please show your support in some fashion so more events like this will happen! See you soon, Houston!

Join Ussssssss....

I'm hoping most of you are familiar with a little podcast known as THE MOVIE CRYPT. It's an amazing show over at Geek Nation hosted by friends & filmmakers Adam Green (Hatchet, Holliston, Frozen, Digging Up the Marrow, etc) & Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Everly, Chillerama, Knights of Badaqssdom, etc). They have special guests who have all worked in film in one way or another & offers an educational, & often very emotional, look in the belly of the beast that is the World of Film. It's easily one of my favorite podcasts & has become a Monday ritual when new episodes are posted at GeekNation.com.
I've done some work w/ both Adam & Joe in the past, including THIS now sold out shirt design for their hilariously touching tv series, HOLLISTON (season three in the works!!):
A limited edition screenprint for their double feature of Digging Up the Marrow/Everly & LIVE podcast recording at the Alamo Drafthouse (available HERE for ONLY $10!):
& of course, just fan art because they rule!:
NOW, here's something NEW that you guys can wrap your torso in all the while supporting this fine podcast. Adam came to me with a rough design & I simply polished it off where it's now presented in all it's adorably, dark glory.... CULT OF ARWEN!
Arwen is the third (& most popular:) member of The Movie Crypt & her ridiculously cute bark which accompanies the claps that welcomes all guests to the show is music to my earholes. Now you can proudly parade around town with Arwen tattooed on your chest while advertising your devotion & membership to the cutest cult on this planet & beyond...the CULT OF ARWEN!
Printed in blood red on a super soft, black tee (because seriously...what cult member would ever wear anything BUT black?!), the front has Arwen smack dab in the middle of an upside-down Christmas tree topper surrounded by the words: "CULT OF ARWEN / JOIN US. WE HAVE TREATS.":
The back of the shirt features the same beautiful black the front offers with the red words: "LISTEN TO THE MOVIE CRYPT" printed on it as well:
These body huggers are available NOW for a special, limited preorder price of $20, so act fast in snatching one up! There are also a plethora of other goodies (including NEW, super RAD 'Hatchet' & 'Holliston' hoodies) at the Ariescope store, so take a moment to look around & throw a few things in your cart. After you check out with the high-fiving satisfaction of supporting Ariescope Pictures, make sure you're all caught up with The Movie Crypt & all the awesome, FREE short films & series that they also offer for your entertainment.
Thank you, friends for taking the time to read this & for your continued support...now I'm gonna go sacrifice a milk bone to my doggie.

4.26 - ALIEN DAY!....AND KRAMPUS!!!!

Bust out the balloons & noisemakers, my fellow scifi/horor freaks, for today is a holiday!
That's right, April 26th, or 4.26 has been labeled "ALIEN DAY" by us fans & it's global spread is being felt RIGHT NOW as you read this boring post. Let me give you on a very quick, nerdy tutorial on what exactly "4.26" is & why we're even celebrating it:

"LV-426 is one of three known moons orbiting Calpamos in the Zeta Reticuli system, 39 light years away from Earth. It was first detected by Weyland Corp astronomers on May 14, 2039. The moon's common name of "Acheron" was given by it's early human colonists (USCSS Nostromo) who settled there in 2122. LV-426 has no indigenous life forms & it is not the Xenomorph homeworld; it was simply a planet which an Engineer ship, containing Xenomorph eggs & possibly live subjects as well, crash-landed. According to Weyland-Yutain surveys, LV-426 was simply a dead rock..."

If any of this immediately makes sense to you, then we can be geeky super friends! If this is all foreign, mumbo jumbo to you, it's alright, we can still be friends..as long as you educate yourself on this material right NOW! All of that jargon above is information from a brilliant franchise that has stood the test of time & continues to be simply AWESOME! In 1979, the first film in the series landed on Earth & by now I hope you're aware that I'm talking about Ridley Scott's masterpiece, ALIEN. Followed up by a few sequels (including James Cameron's flawless film, ALIENS) & even a prequel, the utter coolness of these movies is enough to have one day of the year completely devoted to them & have everyone on this blue marble bow down to it's endless entertainment.
All over this planet people are celebrating this day in one way or another: sitting at home, curled up on the couch with warm popcorn watching one or two or ALL of the ALIEN franchise movies, retelling their favorite stories about when THEY were abducted, attending special screenings at rad cinemas(which I'm doing TONIGHT at Alamo Drafthouse - a double feature of Alien & Aliens!), sweet merchandise is being released from companies & artists from all over, ...wait, let's stop there! Yep, in celebration of this day, I'm releasing a new art print featuring the true star of these films. The Aliens(or Xenomorphs as some call them) were, of course, created & designed by dark master, H.R. Giger whose timeless art continues to, & will forever, inspire. Here's my take on this sexy creature:
Available in TWO different sizes, you can choose to cover 8x10 or 11x14 inches of your wall with this beautiful specimen. Simply head to my online store to pick one up...he really wants to (face)hug & high five you for having it's special day on your calendar!

But wait!...something super cool is simultaneously happening this day that needs to be addressed as well! Another one of my favorite Holiday Horror films is being released TODAY on dvd/bluray. & that film is Mike Dougherty's(who also wrote/directed my absolute FAVORITE film, 'Trick 'r Treat') chilling, KRAMPUS! To celebrate this awesome event, I created a NEW Monster MugShot dipicting the true star of this film, KRAMPUS himself!
This is the FOURTEENTH character added to my ongoing series of Monster MugShots & I'm caroling with excitement to feature him alongside all the other horror icons I've scribbled out for this endless collection. He's just waiting for you to rescue him in my online store, so GO BREAK HIM OUT! Not only is he available in the obvious, regular 'Monster MugShot' mini print size of 4x5.25, but he & now ALL of the current MugShots are available in a new, larger 8x10 size! Start collecting them all, my friends!

So there you have it, HAPPY 4.26 (& krampus day!)!! In closing, I'd also like to share my 11x17 "Three Ugly Motherf@*#ers" black & white print which is on a special, SALE price of only $10 for a limited time since it also features today's celebratory figures:
I also wanted to give you guys a heads up that I'll, of course, be at my FAVORITE convention that's coming up in less than two months, COMICPALOOZA, in Houston! Why is this relevant? Because the guests of honor at this show is the complete cast from ALIENS & it's the films 30 year anniversary! Some of my Alien art will be on VIP badges, special VIP prints & even on t-shirts, so I hope you can make it to this amazing show. I'll also have new, ALIEN art for this show, so please stick around for more info coming soon....
Please follow me on Instagram, Twitter &/or Facebook for reveals & fun art stuff!
Thanks again for everyone's continued support.

DAREDEVIL's here....AGAIN!

If you all have watched Netflix's first season of 'DAREDEVIL', I shouldn't have to tell you how amazing it is. They seriously got it right & know what they're doing. If you haven't watched the first season of 'DAREDEVIL', I advise you to stop reading this & immediately devote the next few days glued to your TV or computer & surrender to Hell's Kitchen.
Anyhoo, you can tell I'm a fan. I grew up with an older brother obsessed with Daredevil & being the youngest who looked up to him, I was surrounded by his comics & dove head first into them as well. I've read a lot of Daredevil & have always appreciated the character...even wincing my way through Ben Affleck's version. Last year I painted up a bust of the red devil as a birthday gift to my oldest bro & now I'm making it available to all of YOU! Yep, in celebration of 'DAREDEVIL's second season which was released TODAY on Netflix, I've added this 11x14, full color, art print to my online store.
For this weekend, it'll ONLY be $10! After that, it'll go to it's regular price of $15, so act fast if you're considering some new art to hang.  Blindly wander to my online shop & check it out!
Thanks for your continued support, ya devils...i truly appreciate it. Now kick back & enjoy the new season...I know I will!

A New Year

You guys, it's 2016. It's scaring me how fast the numbers on the end of the current year changes, but it's an inevitable thing. Despite the terribly devastating news of that disgusting killer, cancer, physically taking some ridiculously inspirational people out of our lives already,  let's focus on making 2016 our best year yet. Take that idea you've had tucked away in your head that you've been putting off for so long & make it happen. Push aside those negative distractions in your life & stare down those goals & dreams you wish to accomplish. I'm not gonna get all Shia LaBeouf on you, but I whole heartedly agree with him screaming in our faces:

Sometimes we do need a quick (& often silly) reminder & if it snaps even one person out of a funk it's totally worth it. Time IS short...

With that, I wanted to invite you ALL to the first art show I'm a part of in 2016. My friends & local badasses, Spratx, have been working incredibly hard the past few months remodeling & creating a new retail AND gallery space in East Austin & now it's time to open the doors to the public! They're throwing a well deserved party for their grand opening THIS Saturday, January 16th, 6-10pm & I couldn't be more pleased & lucky to be a part of it. Spratx expertly crafted 12 wood cut out crowns (their logo) & handed them to different artists to do with them what they wanted..

...I somehow found one in my hands & created this "Monster King":
All twelve pieces will be revealed at the opening & a silent auction will be held for them. Along with that, I'll also have a few other originals & some different art prints available alongside some super talented artists, so I hope to see your smiling faces there so i can high five it. Yes...I'll HIGH FIVE YOUR FACE so you can REALLY feel my love & appreciation! All of the info for the grand opening can be found HERE. I really hope you can make it.

Again, friends, let's not lose focus in 2016 & let's put all our energy into the things & people that really matter to us.
xo
